Well-known Malayalam actor and producer Soubin Shahir, who had recently taken the internet by storm with his dance performance on the song Monica from Rajinikanth’s film Coolie, has found himself in some serious trouble. For those who don’t know, he was recently taken into custody by the Maradu police in Kerala, in relation to the Rs 7 crore financial fraud case linked to his 2024 film Manjummel Boys, which he co-produced as well as starred in.
According to a media report, the movie has been under investigation for alleged embezzlement. News18 reports that the co-producers of the film Babu Shahir and Shawn Anthony, were also detained before being granted bail. Now, amid ongoing investigation, the media publication’s new report states that Soubin has been denied permission to travel to the UAE.

Yes, you read that right! Quoting a report by India Today, he has requested approval to travel in September; however, the request was denied by the Ernakulam Magistrate Court. Reportedly, he had planned on travelling to Dubai to attend an award show on September 5.
The 41-year-old actor was arrested in July in connection with the case, but was granted an anticipatory bail. He was then released on the same day.
For the unversed, Soubin, his father Babu Shahir, and Anthony were arrested after an investor, Siraj Valiyaveettil, alleged that he was promised a 40% share of the profits but only received Rs 5.99 crore instead. He had expected to receive Rs 40 crore. The movie was a huge commercial success and had reportedly earned Rs 240.5 crore worldwide.

Released in 2024, Manjummel Boys is a Malayalam survival thriller film that follows the journey of a group of friends from the town of Manjummel. Written and directed by Chidambaram, it features an ensemble cast including Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Deepak Parambol, Balu Varghese, Ganapathi S. Poduval, Lal Jr., Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Arun Kurian, Khalid Rahman, and Shebin Benson. The movie is reportedly based on a real-life incident that happened in the Guna Caves in 2006.
