Varun Dhawan’s Baby John will be released in the theaters on 25 December 2024. It marks Dhawan’s return in an action film after his 2015 project Badlapur. While the anticipation among fans has been high as it is being presented by Jawan filmmaker Atlee, the excitement doubled when the makers revealed that Salman Khan will be making a cameo appearance towards the end of the film. “Salman Khan has shot a solid mass scene,” said Atlee.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Atlee spoke about how the producers thought of the idea of Khan’s cameo, and what it took them to convince him. Atlee said, “It was just an initial discussion between me and Murad (Khetani) Sir. I told him, ‘Sir, towards the end, I need a cameo… should we ask Salman Sir?’ He said, ‘Okay.’ Next day, he calls me in the morning and says, ‘Salman has agreed to do a cameo.’ I was shocked. I was, like, ‘I was just discussing with you, I don’t have any such scene prepared for it. Let me work on it.’”
Murad Khetani, also part of the interview, added, “I didn’t have to convince him (Salman Khan). I was just having a conversation with him over a call. During our chat, I simply asked, ‘Bhai, we wanted to do a scene with you in Baby John.’ He was, like, ‘Done, let me know when I have to come for it.’ The conversation didn’t go beyond ten seconds.”
Atlee, one of the producers of Baby John, also spoke about being present on set with Khan. Speaking of the same, he said, “I wanted everything to be just perfect as we were having such a superstar coming on our set. As a presenter, I had to be responsible. Despite all of that, I was twenty minutes late. Not that I was tardy, but Salman Sir arrived before time. He was asked to reach the set by 1, but he was there by 12:30, we all reached exactly at 1, and we saw him sitting like a lion and waiting for us.”
“I went and said, ‘Hi,’ and he replied with a ‘Hi.’” Varun Dhawan said, “‘Bruce Lee ka bhai At-Lee.’” Atlee also said that after agreeing to do the cameo, Khan blindly trusted the makers, refusing to hear the scene. “I asked Murad Sir if we could meet Salman Sir and share the scene with him… when we approached Salman Sir for the same, he responded, ‘It’s you guys, why do I have to listen to the scene… I will do as you say.’ I have never seen a superstar like that.”
In conclusion, Atlee revealed, “Salman Sir was extremely fun loving. We captured great action, we got a good five minutes mass scene. You can call it a seetimaar scene.” The filmmaker also said that he will soon announce another big film, which will reportedly star Salman Khan. “I will surprise you all,” said Atlee.
