Neeraj Ghaywan returns to the Cannes Film Festival with his second feature, Homebound, selected for the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes 2025. The poignant drama, featuring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, highlighting a proud milestone for Indian cinema internationally.

Karan Johar took to Instagram to share the big news. “HOMEBOUND, our soulful story directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, has been selected for the illustrious Festival De Cannes!” he wrote. “This moment is a testament to the power of Indian cinema, showcasing our unique stories, talents, and perspectives to the world… This achievement is not just a win for our film industry, but a beacon of hope for emerging filmmakers.”

Janhvi Kapoor, who plays a key role in the film, added, “A moment where Indian cinema takes over the world. We are honoured to announce that #Homebound makes its way to the official selection at the 78th edition of the Festival De Cannes in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ category. Our hearts are full and we can’t wait to show you all this journey on the big screens!” Fans are buzzing about Homebound, which reunites Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter onscreen for the first time since their 2018 debut, Dhadak. Rumors of a romance between the two swirled during filming.

Neeraj Ghaywan, no stranger to Cannes, debuted there in 2015 with Masaan in Un Certain Regard, a critically acclaimed film starring Vicky Kaushal and Richa Chadha that clinched the Special Prize and FIPRESCI Prize. This year’s Un Certain Regard lineup also features Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, alongside works by Morad Mostafa, Francesco Sossai, and Akinola Davies Jr.

Following Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light, which won the Grand Prix in last year’s Main Competition, expectations are high for Homebound. The 2025 Cannes Film Festival, with Juliette Binoche as jury president, will take place from 13 to 24 May.
