Known for his high-octane action sequences on screen, John Abraham has revealed a more relatable aspect of his childhood: getting a good thrashing from his mother with a broom! The actor, who is currently promoting his latest film Vedaa, shared this humorous anecdote on the Aapka Apna Zakir show.

Recalling his mischievous days, John laughed as he described how he and his brother would run around in their underwear, only to be chased down by their mother wielding a broom. “Mummy ne boht maara mujhe, jhaadu ke sath. Kyunki bachpan mein hum log, jab 6-7 saal ke the, main aur mera bhai chaddi aur baniyan mein bhaagte the aur mummy jhaadoo ke sath aake maarti thi (My mom has beaten me a lot with a broom. Because during my childhood, when I was 6-7 years old, me and my brother would run around in our shorts and mother would run behind us with a broom).”

John shared that if he and his brother did not improve, his mother would faint, perhaps pretend to faint, so the kids could behave nicely. “Aur fir jab hum improve nahi hote the toh voh behosh ho jati thi, toh hum jaake paani leke mummy ke upar ‘mummy mummy get up get up’ aise daalte the. Toh boht hi naughty bache the hum dono (When we wouldn’t behave, she would faint and we would get water and sprinkle it on her face and say ‘mummy, get up’. So we were very naughty.),” he recalled.

While his on-screen persona is that of a tough action hero, John’s childhood experiences remind us that even the most rugged individuals have soft sides and relatable memories.
