‘My Great-Grandchildren Will Live In Mannat Like Some Old Parsi Family’: SRK On The Importance Of His Bungalow

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan has always been vocal about his love for his bungalow Mannat, located in Bandra’s bandstand area, Mumbai. As the renovation work at the sea-facing iconic bungalow is set to reportedly undergo renovations in May, his old interview has resurfaced. For those who don’t know, media reports suggest that the renovations also include a long-planned extension.

Since Mannat is a Grade III heritage structure, any structural modification requires proper permissions, which SRK and his wife Gauri Khan had earlier obtained from court.Spanning over 27,000 sq ft area, Mannat is reportedly a six-story mansion which is currently valued at Rs 200 crore. As the renovations are about the begin, and the Khan family will be shifting to a residence in Pali Hill, the 59-year-old actor had once expressed how Mannat was much more than a house for him.

In the old interview, he had openly talked about Mannat’s importance for him and how it signified family heritage, stability, and so much more. Expressing how buying the house was one of the most difficult things he had done in his life, he shared that he didn’t have a house anywhere in the world, as his parents had passed away. Mentioning that he had a “house fetish,” he said that he always wanted a house of his own.

Further explaining his need for a house, Khan shared that the house was not only for him and his family but also for the future generations of the family. He always wanted to give them what he had longed for. Quoting the actor from an old video, ETimes quoted him saying, “When I had kids, I got this house. It’s my family’s house. We took a decision, we’ll always live in Bombay. So my great-grandchildren are going to live in this house like some old Parsi family.”

Emphasizing on the fact that the house is a symbol of security and stability for him and his family, he added that people can take away his studio, his office, his other commercial properties, but not his house. “But my house is for the security of my wife, my sister, and my two children,” he said.

The Pathaan actor also revealed an unsaid rule he follows after entering the house, so that it’s sanctity is maintained. ETimes quoted him saying, “There are some rules we have, unsaid rules really, that I will not make a phone call once I’m in the house. So you’ll always find me making a phone call from the bathroom, here and there, close the door, and then talk.”

Talking about the residence SRK and his family will be temporarily shifting to, they will be relocating to a four floor luxury apartment in Pali Hill, Bandra. The building Puja Casa is co-owned by filmmaker Vashu Bhagnani and his children Jackky Bhagnani, and Deepshikha Deshmukh. As per media reports, the Jawan actor has leased two duplex apartments on the building’s first, second, seventh, and eighth floors.

On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan will be next seen in Siddharth Anand directorial King. The project reportedly stars his daughter Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Abhay Verma in pivotal roles. While fans are waiting for an update on the film, the film is expected to release in 2026.
