Superstar Rajinikanth is all set to return to the big screens with his upcoming film Coolie. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the movie is a part of his cinematic universe. Scheduled for a release on August 14, the makers recently released the trailer of the film, leaving fans theorizing about what will happen next. Many have taken to their social media handles, trying to decode the plot and wondering if there were any futuristic or sci-fi elements in it.
Now, during a recent pre-release event of the movie, the director addressed the growing curiosity and the fan theories that are floating around on social media platforms. When asked if, just like the theories, the movie is indeed a science fiction or includes time-travel, he kept his answer cryptic. Without going much into detail, Kanagaraj stated that he has read the theories and is excited for the fans to finally watch the film.

Quoted by the Free Press Journal, the 39-year-old filmmaker said, “I used to read all those things but it actually surprises me as well. Just now I was discussing it with Sathyaraj sir that everybody says it’s a sci-fi film and it’s a time-travel film… I am so excited to see people, who are going to be surprised when they actually see what the film is all about.”
Produced by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures, the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial is headlined by superstar Rajinikanth. Coolie also stars Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, and Monisha Blessy, along with Aamir Khan in a special cameo.

It is to be noted that Coolie is a part of Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) along with Kaithi, Vikram, Leo, and Benz, which has yet to be released. Scheduled for a release on August 14, it will clash at the box office with Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani starrer WAR 2.
