TVF’s Panchayat dropped its 4th season starring Jitendra Kumar, aka Jeetu Bhaiya, as Abhishek Tripathi, aka Sachiv ji of gram Fulera on the show. Panchayat unravels the heart of the desi hinterland that is deprived of policies and reforms meant for the people as administration and politics add to the misery of its very existence. Enter Sachiv Ji as the new ad hoc secretary for the Sarpanch of the village and things take a colorful turn for the better. The show softens several issues that plague India’s rural heartlands yet somehow struck a chord with viewers craving relatable content that does not revolve around millionaires’s mansions, swanky cars, and corporate drama.
Remarking on the show during its inaugural season, Jitendra Kumar had remarked that if Panchayat were made in the 90s, then Swades (2004) star and Bollywood’s Badshah, Shah Rukh Khan, would have been the perfect casting for the show. But SRK had already featured in a similar TV show in 1989.
The clip from the feature Umeed has gone viral again on social media amid the hype for Panchayat’s latest season. Shah Rukh Khan portrays an urban lad sent by his bank to a remote village to operate the proceedings. Dubbed ‘Bank Babu’ by the locals, the protagonist has a similar tussle with the upper-class tyrants in the village. But all’s well when it ends swell. Give the SRK classic a watch on YouTube.
