The sequel The Bad Guys 2 follows up on 2022 release of the same name with a group of mastermind thieves who are known for their antics. The first film explores a group of evil animal based gang, aka monsters who turned thieves after life became hard. However, after thieving for many years and living up to their name ‘The Bad Guys’ one incident turns them good and they end up saving the world from a real kind of evil. The sequel now explores what happened to the ex-convicts and how did they move on with their lives.

The Bad Guys 2 begins with a flash back of how the group found their first Mr Wolf struggling to find a job after having served his time in jail for his crimes. The entire gang returns to their lair, but this time its empty with eviction notices and without all the gold and loot seen in the previous film. Mr Wolf tries his best to find a job but spending time in jail nobody wants to hire any of them. The truth about them helping the Governer fight Marmalade has been kept hidden and it doesn’t help their case either.

However, when they find out a new group is using their calling card to steal artifacts, they decide to help the commissioner solve the case and clear their name. When they find the group, the bad guys get framed and now have to stop the crime from taking place or they will be forced to take the fall, ruining their life once again. The runtime has been kept short but the film makes up for it with great action sequences and good directions.

The background score is one of the best part of the film along with the swift animation style which works great with each other the characters. Despite bringing alot of the old character into the sequel, their appearances aren’t forced. The continuity also helps keep the nostalgia but the new characters chasing the thieving keeps the story fresh. For a children’s film, the makers do explore some serious themes about the job world, how ex-convicts are treated and the difference between doing bad things and being evil.

The makers balance the humour for different age groups including situational comedy which can be enjoyed by everyone. The film doubles down on its chaotic energy as compared to the original, but it doesn’t take away from the film’s experience but makes it better.

Overall, The Bad Guys 2 is one of the best children’s film of the year which can be enjoyed by a range of audiences.
