Vikramaditya Motwane, the acclaimed filmmaker behind hits like Udaan and Jubilee, has publicly criticized the producers of the upcoming film Mrs, starring Sanya Malhotra, for failing to acknowledge the technicians and the original creators in the trailer’s credits.

In a bold move, Motwane took to his Instagram to share his discontent, resharing a news post from Free Press Journal that questioned the absence of credits for the technicians. He captioned his post with a sharp critique: “Oh the irony of the producers making a film about someone who toils in the kitchen whilst having artistic dreams and then not crediting the artists themselves.”

The film Mrs, which explores the life of Richa, a trained dancer turned housewife, was adapted from the Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen. Motwane’s comments were aimed at highlighting the hypocrisy of not crediting the very artists who bring such stories to life, especially in a narrative centered around the struggles of an artist seeking recognition.

The trailer for Mrs lists the production teams but omits the names of the technicians, a move that Motwane finds particularly ironic given the film’s themes. This oversight has sparked a debate about the recognition of behind-the-scenes talent in the film industry.

Directed by Arati Kadav, Mrs is poised for a digital release on 7 February 2025. The film not only tells the story of Richa’s struggle between her domestic duties and her passion for dance, but also inadvertently raises questions about the treatment of creative professionals in cinema. Motwane’s public outcry might just be the catalyst needed for a broader conversation on artist recognition within Bollywood.
